Most of our devices now require a password. Since we have grown so reliant on technology, these electronic passwords must remain secure. Unfortunately, there are those who look for methods in which to steal from others. Thus, you don’t want to pick passwords without security in the forefront of your mind. Below are some helpful tips that can help you stay safe.
Don’t Share it With Others
There are some passwords that you do share with others. For example, your colleagues might need to know your computer password incase you miss work that day and they have to retrieve something off your computer. However, you need to keep something like your bank password to yourself. If in doubt, just don’t share it.
Make Them Long
Always make your password at least eight characters long. With that said, the longer the better. The security of your password increases with each additional character you use. In fact, some experts argue that you should make your password at least 12 characters long.
Use Capital Letters, Symbols, and Numbers
You don’t want to make your password something that is easily guessed. If it is as unusual as possible, it will be more difficult to figure out. There is a flip side of course; if you make it too ambiguous, you might forget it. If you possible, it is advisable to include at least one capital letter, one symbol, and one number.
Be Careful Where You Keep Them
If you are concerned about forgetting it, it isn’t a terrible idea to write it down. However, be warned that if you write it down, you have to hide that information somewhere where nobody but you can find it.
