When Avaya acquired Nortel in 2009, it signaled the beginning of the end for the aging company. Replacement parts and qualified technicians became rarities, and soon, finding any support for Nortel systems will be impossible.
Unfortunately, for those companies who rely on Nortel systems, the end is almost near.
System Programming Failure
The older Nortel systems still utilize a super-capacitor for system memory storage. Sadly, super-capacitors frequently fail as they age.
This means that if there is a power failure, all of your programming is lost (extension numbers and names, call handling, etc.). The only way to repair this is to re-program the entire system, which can lead to hours of downtime.
Power Supply Failure
Power supplies are the the most common type of failure associated with Nortel systems. Nortel power supplies convert AC electrical current from the wall to a lower voltage DC current. Unfortunately, that creates heat and over time compromises the power supply. Obviously, without a power supply, your entire phone system will go down.
Norstar Component Failure
Nortel phone systems are almost entirely hardware reliant, and the system is made up of many different cards and modules. For example, if the T1 card fails, you won’t be able to receive or make calls. If a station module fails, the telephones stop functioning. The worst part about a card or module failure is that there is no way to predict when it will happen.
With all of these looming Nortel difficulties, your company should give serious consideration to the Avaya IP Office Phone System. It has been proven to simplify your company’s communication and allows for increased productivity as well as efficiency. IP office phone systems provide greater security (without compromising your employee’s ability to access the network) and reduce travel costs.
With simplified service and cost reduction, it’s simple to understand why businesses are flocking to IP office phone systems. Contact Jay Faulconer for more information!
