If you are a business phone systems administrator, then one of your biggest fears is likely an extended power outage. How is your business supposed to function when you can’t even get your business phone to function? Here are some tips to put your mind at ease during the next power outage.
Install a Power Failure Jack
A power failure jack is nothing more than a jack configured to the first line of your business. In the event of a power failure, merely hook an old fashioned phone into the jack. That way, you can still answer one call at a time, as well as place outgoing calls. Be sure to test this line for functionality quarterly so you don’t have any nasty surprises when the time comes to use it.
Battery Back-Up – UPS system
If the outage is temporary, an UPS system can be a life saver in terms of maintaining business phone system functionality. Talk to your vendor before purchasing your system about the best options for a UPS system. UPS systems are sized and priced according to how long you wish to keep your equipment running.
Phone System Back Up
If a power outage lasts a few days and brownout conditions occur, your phone system could be damaged. However, if you have had preventative maintenance and a back-up of your system done, the damage won’t be nearly as severe. With a back-up, you won’t have to completely re-program your business phone system from scratch, which can be quite a time saver.
