Many employees have been forced to turn to telework in recent days. A big part of telework is video conferencing. Video conferencing is a great tool, but you have to use it correctly. Here are some tips that can allow you to make the most of your video conference.
Computer Performance
If your equipment (i.e. your computer) isn’t running properly, your video conference software won’t work as intended. When you are getting ready to start a conference, you should close any background apps you don’t need during the call. This can free up power and memory. You should also make sure your internet connectivity is stable. If it isn’t, moving closer to your router or even using an Ethernet cable can help.
Organization
Once you have your equipment situated, you should make sure you are organized and prepared. If you have files you need to share, you should send them in advance. If you have notes and other documents you need to refer to during the conference, you should have them at your fingertips. Having everyone on the same page can save a lot of time.
Distraction-Free Background
While fun backgrounds can be exciting, it is probably better to have a distraction-free one for your video conference instead. By picking a neutral background, everyone can stay focused on the topic at hand. Likewise, you should pick a spot that is quiet (i.e. away from the TV or other people). This way, your co-workers can pay attention to you rather than what is going on behind you.
Do Not Disturb
If you are sharing your screen with the other people who are on the call, you should go out of your way to prevent distractions. One way of doing this is to enable ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode. This will prevent private messages and alerts from popping up. You should also sign out of any browsers or programs that you don’t want to share with your team.
