How Avaya Aura Works
The Avaya Aura Platform decouples applications from the underlying network. This design enables centralized management of distributed systems and allows IT teams to manage communication workflows from a single interface.
At its core, the Avaya Aura Communication Manager provides call routing, security, and system control. It integrates seamlessly with messaging, conferencing, and contact center tools within Avaya’s broader ecosystem.

Core Avaya Aura Components: Communication Manager, Session Manager & System Manager
The heart of the Avaya Aura platform. Communication Manager provides centralized call routing, digit translation, station administration, and security across all sites and endpoints. It handles all call processing logic and connects to Session Manager for SIP routing. Session Manager is the SIP proxy at the center of the Avaya Aura architecture. It controls session routing between Avaya applications, endpoints, and third-party SIP systems. All SIP traffic in an Aura deployment flows through Session Manager, which enforces routing policies and provides centralized dial plan management. System Manager is the web-based administration console for the entire Avaya Aura platform. It provides a single pane of glass for managing users, endpoints, applications, and routing policies across all locations. System Manager eliminates the need to log in to each component separately.
Avaya Aura Contact Center
Avaya Aura Contact Center (AACC) is the enterprise-scale customer interaction platform that runs on the Aura infrastructure. It is designed for organizations managing high call volumes across multiple agent groups, skill-based routing requirements, and complex reporting needs. Skill-based and priority-based routing, real-time and historical reporting, agent scripting and screen pops, outbound campaign management, IVR integration, and omnichannel support for voice, email, and web chat. Healthcare systems managing patient intake lines, financial services contact centers, government agencies handling citizen service lines, and enterprises with 50+ concurrent agents who need detailed performance reporting use AACC.
