No matter how a company plans to deploy VoIP, they oftentimes worry about the cost. Not only do they have to deal with an upfront cost, but also recurring maintenance charges. Companies are often surprised about how little the upfront cost is. Furthermore, the maintenance costs don’t break the bank either. Here’s how:
Upfront Cost
One of the reasons customers switch to VoIP in the first place is that it doesn’t involve a lot of equipment. This is part of what makes it so cost effective. If you choose Hosted VoIP, you don’t have to experience the large overhead that other companies have.
Maintenance Charges
One of the biggest concerns of businesses are those pesky recurring charges. They don’t seem large at first, but over time they can add up. As mentioned earlier, Hosted VoIP doesn’t involve a lot of upfront fees. It also lessens the need for maintenance. Not only do you have less equipment to deal with, but the provider takes on a responsibility as well.
This isn’t to say that you have nothing to take care of though. You have less equipment, but you still have to make sure you have an Internet connection. You need to take care of your routers, cables, etc. These will require care and replacement every so often. You also will need to ensure that you have the proper security in place.
There are also the physical IP phones. Depending on your organization, some employees will have softphones but companies will always have a need for desk phones. For the most part your desk phones won’t need regular maintenance, but you could always experience software problems that require troubleshooting.
When all is said and done though, maintenance costs for VoIP don’t run you near as much as other systems.
